Keep the Home Fire Burning

You are invited into the sweetest place. It’s a safe place to let go and receive beauty and be filled…it’s your heart. I invite you take in a little heart inspiration that came to today. Please take what speaks to your heart. Perhaps it’s something not said but in that unspoken space that the Holy Spirit does His work.

A Heart in Prayer

During prayer, I walked into a little mushroom house.

Inside sat a brown bunny—the kind you would see quietly in a field. She was sitting beside her fireplace with a warm fire glowing, peacefully knitting.

I walked across the beautifully woven rug and sat in an empty chair beside her. Bunny looked up with a welcoming nod and sparkle in her eyes before returning to her knitting.

I sat facing the fire.

Then Jesus, Mother Mary, and Father Gerry walked in and stood beside us.

Jesus smiled and said,

“She is one of My favorites.”

My first thought was, Has Bunny knitted many things for Him?

Then the prayer ended.

I didn’t understand.

Sometimes God Speaks Twice

Within a few moments after, I came across an Instagram reflection by Alex Beil called The Campfire Theory. His words about tending the fire and keeping an open chair suddenly illuminated what Jesus had just shown me in prayer.

It wasn’t that Bunny had knitted many things for Jesus.

It was that…

She kept the fire burning.

She always had a warm place.

An open chair.

A heart ready to receive another.

Keeping the Fire

It made me wonder.

When someone knocks on the door of our lives—perhaps through a text message, a visit, or simply a request—it’s an opportunity to invite them to sit beside our fire.

Perhaps Jesus Himself comes to speak with them there.

I thought about how it’s important to keep our fires glowing, to be ready for a guest.

Maybe it’s returning to the hobby we’ve been putting off.

Maybe it’s quiet prayer before the house awakens.

Maybe it’s taking a peaceful bath that reminds us we are loved.

He is always giving us ways to be filled.

“You will show me the path to life, abounding joy in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever.”
Psalm 16:11

An Open Chair

I wondered what it would be like if all of our fires burned brightly with a welcoming chair.

If every heart remained warm enough to receive another.

I think Jesus would be the One sitting beside us.

Our fires would quietly become praise to God the Father.

Until then, every person we receive is an opportunity to receive as Jesus Himself.

If you would like to pray together, I would love to pray with you and for you.

Father,

Your fire is already within us.

You’ve given us everything to trust in you. Please increase our faith and our fire.

Open our hearts to receive others, to have an open chair in peace and warmth. Help us to receive others as we would you.

Thank you for the times that we need others and you send them. They quietly wait with us as we all remain in you.

Let our love from you kindle in others their own fires to let us all praise your name.

Let us take in little moments of great love. Let us receive and be filled to be ready in your Grace.

Amen.

  • That is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing such an uplifting message. It’s in those moments when we quiet the noise and slowdown that we begin to recognize the message right in front of us. May we always keep our fire burning brightly, ready to bring light, warmth, and encouragement to everyone who crosses our path.

    • Amen, Kim. That is a beautiful prayer and reflection. I love how that makes me think of slowing down by the fire helps to quiet the noise to hear and abide. Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom and kindness.
